Synopsis

A modern American epic that explodes onto the stage in a paradoxical challenge to memory, life, God and prayer.  In the summer of 1953, 11-year-old Owen Meany is playing in a Little League baseball game in New Hampshire when he hits a foul ball that kills his best friend's mother.  Owen does not believe in accidents and believes he is God's instrument.  What happens to him afterwards is extraordinary and terrifying - he is Irving's most heartbreaking hero.

Reviewers' comments on Kelly Reilly:

" ... there is enticing support from Kelly Reilly as an inadvertent maternal victim." - from Michael Billington, The Guardian.

"Richard Hope's John is gently affable, with strong support from ... Kelly Reilly as his sweet, flirty mum." - from K Bassett, Independent on Sunday.

"In a large cast with lots of doubling, Kelly Reilly stands out as John's mother, who becomes a symbol throughout the play of both sexuality and salvation. " - from Gerald Berkowitz, Theatre Guide London
